stunned by its accuracy
I think we can all agree that any project, job or construction requires measurements after measurements, a lot of it. It's probably the single most important aspect for any build, further more, measuring is always the first required task before proceeding forward.
The measuring tape--'The tried and true(not all the time, actually not so much a lot of the times)'. Anyone in the field I mentioned above will have 1 or 2 either in their toolbox and/or holstered on to their belt of some sort. It's a tool that can never be replaced, not even this laser (only because the laser cannot measure anything under 6inches).
I recently got the GLM30(new edition) as a gift. For someone who used all sorts of measuring tools that was not digital, I was very skeptical and really thought of it as a gimmick rather than a serious tool. I use measuring tapes, combo squares, and T-squares religiously and had no intentions of using this laser simply because i assumed that a device doing measurments for me cannot be trusted.
I decided that I would first conduct a test on this little guy. I snickered and mocked it pre-results, at the end of the test the results left me speechless. Bosch claims that its accuracy is 1/16 but my test yielded an accuracy threshold of 1/32! I couldn't believe the reading and actually conducted it once more on a different surface with different measuring tools. Please take a look at how the test was setup, it's fairly basic, quite accuracy nonetheless.
Using a miter saw, I cut a scrap piece of wood at exactly 14 31/32inches, I intentionally made the cut at that specific length because my first test run was so impressive. At 1/32 shy of 15inches in total, there's absolutely no room for error, if the laser was not capable of those figure, it would clearly be shown. The back-end of the laser was supported by a square with 2 protruding channels, this allows the square to sit flat and straight against both the wood piece and the bottom of the laser given the housing of the laser is also accounted for in the total distance. The laser was aimed at a straight and flat ruler that was being pressed by the same wood maintaining a perfect 90 degree. The laser reads 1ft and 2-31/32inches or 14 31/32inches, that's 1/32 inch shy of 15. It's really quite staggering.
The confidence that you get with this laser knowing that it is accurate to that degree gives you the ability to work much faster without second guessing measurments, I still measure twice nonetheless lol, it's a good habit that hasn't died. It literally eliminated sanding and cutting material down to make fit, which saved me a tremendous amount of time and workload. I honestly feel that this tool is an essential piece for any job that requires accurate, fast, and consistent readings. Once you get used to using it, you'll feel uncomfortablely valnerable and confused without it.
For those who complain that this device will not give you a read out in all inches and had a difficult time using this device due to the lack of the feature, I would highly suggest enrolling in your childhood elementary school once again to refresh your memory. It's a simple math equation called 'adding and subtracting' where a value of 12 is added per ft, heck the laser does the hard part for you. Seriously guys, it isn't Calculus or Chaos Math.

A delightful little measuring tool
In a previous product review dated October 2015 here on Amazon, someone stated that they wished this unit could display not only Feet + Inches, but just Inches or just Feet. Because I was most interested in Feet + Inches, I purchased this unit anyway, believing that it could not display Feet or Inches alone, but only cycle between Meters and Feet + Inches. However, let me be very clear: This unit can cycle through all 4 modes (see pictures):
Feet + Inches
Amazon sells a wide variety of laser measuring tools from several manufacturers. Although this unit is priced higher than most, I agree with nearly all other reviewers that it measures very accurately and provides all of the key features. Its interface is simple and uncluttered, and the build quality is very good.

The best part is not having to ask a friend to ...

We never have to use another measuring tape again! Well sort of.
This device came in handy as we needed to figure out the perimeter and area of the rooms that we were remodeling. It makes our job so much easier and more enjoyable. The best part is not having to ask a friend to hold the other end of the tape, while shouting numbers across the room.
We also use it to get measurements for roll cages and other automotive/fabrication related needs.
