This trim for a 6" recessed downlight ("can") seems like a practical solution to retrofitting MR16 lamps as a replacement for R, BR and PAR lamps. It allows tilting the lamp in one direction for a wall wash application or to compensate for a sloped ceiling. The quality seems acceptable but not outstanding. Note that the photo supplied by Amazon shows a small trim ring, possibly for a 3" downlight, while this item has a larger diameter trim (to adapt from the gimbal-mount 2" diameter MR16 lamp to a larger-than-6" diameter trim to cover the downlight edges). The Eurofase website shows an actual photo for this model trim.

I experienced a couple of issues with this trim. First of all, while a halogen MR16 fits fine I'm using an LED lamp that has the largest diameter length longer than a typical halogen lamp. This longer length interferes with the lamp enclosure if you try to insert it into place (from the back of the trim). I tried with both different LED MR16-like lamps I have but the LED heatsink interfered for both. My solution was to nip off 1/8 to 1/4 inch of the cast aluminum lamp enclosure on one back side, providing sufficient clearance for the lamp to enter the enclosure. I do not need to pivot the lamps on the gimbal sufficiently to let the nipped areas show. Now the lamp sits properly against the enclosure front rim with the clip preventing movement.

The other problem is that the trim does not easily seat against the ceiling. I think the problem is that the 2-leg retainer springs do not apply enough force to keep the heavier LED lamp (than a halogen MR16) in place. With careful adjustment the springs seem to barely hold the trim in place but I wonder if, say, an earthquake would shake the trim loose. The original trim had 2 extension springs and quite a bit more force holding the trim where you located it, probably a better design unless the housing has slots specifically located to catch the 2-leg springs.

5Great!!!!
By JADDO
I have two of the old 6" recessed lights above the fireplace. They looked old, dated from the 80's. We were freshening room up with new wood flooring and furniture and wanted to update lighting. Came across these gems.

Basically just pull out your old 6" can lights, and fit the new 3" halogen lights in. Unbelievably easy to do and boy what a difference in the the look. You can rotate the light 180 degrees and also can adjust the beam. Also added a dimmer switch on the two lights, focused a them on picture above fireplace.

I have to say, best $40 I have spent in quite a long time. Highly recommend to update your old 6" can lights.

5Best and simplest solution for upgrading old and bulky 6 ...
By Alexandra B. Reeves
Best and simplest solution for upgrading old and bulky 6 or 8 inch can lights. We avoided our contractor having to cut open holes, drywall, fill in and paint our ceilings as well as all electrical work by installing these.
My one complaint:
The instructions DO NOT explain how to remove the front panel on the converter to insert the halogen bulb, and DOESN'T explain how to affix the component to into the old can housing. I can't believe anyone at the manufacturer assumed it was self explanatory. We all tried to figure it out, first was our contractor who was here doing other work, and finally after tinkering with the converter I figured it out BY CHANCE.

Once they're up, they look great and you can swivel them to aim at artwork. I even matched the ceiling color and had them painted to match. What were once bulky eyesores are now, electrically efficient and good looking lights.

I highly recommend this product. If I could, I'd write the instructions for them.
